Posted on: 2/14/2017

HOUSTON – (Oct. 20, 2016) – Texas Children’s Hospital is excited to announce a $5 million commitment from The John M. O’Quinn Foundation to the hospital’s Promise Campaign. The generosity of the foundation will be recognized by naming the commons dining and gathering area of Texas Children’s medical center campus, a central hub that serves all of the hospital’s clinical buildings. With this commitment, the foundation becomes the largest cumulative supporter of Texas Children’s new pediatric tower in the Texas Medical Center, giving a total of $5.1 million. “Children from across Houston, the nation and the world have come to rely on the medical care and expertise offered at Texas Children’s Hospital,” said Rob Wilson III, president at the O’Quinn Foundation. “We felt it was imperative to do our part in supporting the tireless efforts of the hospital to help ensure Texas Children’s has the infrastructure in place to meet the needs of their patients five, 10 and even 20 years from now.”

Committed to providing the very best care possible to all children who come to the hospital, it is essential that Texas Children’s continues to grow. To help meet the increasing demand for high-quality, specialized pediatric care, Texas Children’s is currently building a new pediatric tower in the Texas Medical Center. The vertical expansion includes reinvesting in the programs needed by the most critically ill patients, primarily in the critical care units, operating rooms, Heart Center and many of the diagnostic and therapeutic services offered. As part of this expansion, the hospital is adding 19 floors and 638,421 square feet, which will result in a 25-floor tower. Slated to be completed in 2018, the new tower will house 126 beds for pediatric and cardiovascular intensive care, new operating rooms with the latest technology and will be the new home to Texas Children's Heart Center, including the outpatient clinic, cardiovascular operating rooms and catheterization labs.
This gift helps support the construction of the tower and the efforts of Texas Children’s Promise Campaign, a comprehensive $475 million fundraising effort to help ensure the future of Texas Children’s as the leading pediatric and women’s health care provider for greater Houston, the state of Texas and beyond.
